We Live In A Beautiful World |
So, I'm up in my office, cleaning. The dogs begin barking. I let it go, figuring the wife and kids will answer. Dogs continue barking. I walk over to the window and take a look. In the same moment, the my daughter announces someone is at the door.
The wife and kids are still in pajamas. I head down and open the door only to find Zahn and a smile. The Holiday can't get any better.
As most of you know, Zahn and I spent our teenage years together. Seeing and being with him brings a watershed of emotions. We hammered life and got hammered by life - together - in those moments that define youth. Seeing him is like a real life Stand By Me movie for me.
If I died tomorrow, he would get a call from my wife requesting a return to the Midwest to carry me to my grave. Although distance has separated us for 15 years, the cement that binds us is as strong as ever. I could go without a call, email or visit for 20 years and the minute we saw each other, it would be wherever it was the last time we left off.
My kids finally got to meet him. He was as interested in them as they were in him. They watched Into The West with me, with my youngest daughter asking "when will your friend come out of the tv to meet us?" Well, he came out of the TV and visited out house.
We talked about the web site. Still amazed and blown away by all of you who have asked Zahn questions, requested info, a picture, and sent him stuff. Keep it up!
